The art was selling itself.
The website wasn't.
A highly engaged Instagram audience was arriving and leaving without buying. The marketing wasn't broken. The on-site journey was.
The marketing wasn't broken. The conversion path was. Instagram was doing its job perfectly, delivering highly engaged visitors. The site was losing them the moment they arrived.
A loyal audience. A broken journey.
When POW took over in September 2025, FTRLA had something most brands would envy, a passionate audience arriving from Instagram at a 97.8% engagement rate. People were interested. They were clicking through. They were landing on the site.
Then they were leaving.
THE CHALLENGE
This wasn't just a redesign, it was a complete digital build. The visual direction came first: neutral colours, clear typography, no unnecessary noise. A window-shop feel where the products could speak for themselves.
Then the technical stack was built around it, e-commerce, payments, stock management, customer records, analytics and geolocation, all integrated into a single platform the client could manage independently. Launched on Squarespace with Stripe, Google Workspace and GA4, everything connected from day one.
THE APPROACH
01 — The homepage wasn't earning attention
Visitors arrived from a rich, curated Instagram world and landed on a page that didn't match that energy. Nothing pulled them in fast enough.
02 — The purchase journey had invisible friction
We identified 7 checkout abandonments in a single tracked period users who reached the final stage and stopped. On a £240+ product, each one is a meaningful lost sale.
03 — Mobile was an afterthought
With organic social as the primary traffic driver, most visitors arrived on phones. The site was built desktop-first the wrong way round entirely.
Homepage rebuilt as a narrative journey
Restructured to pull visitors directly into the world of the work, then into the collection designed for people who arrived staged and engaged.
Mobile-first throughout
Every interaction redesigned for the social scroll the way FTRLA's audience actually arrives. Not an adaptation of the desktop experience; a rebuild.
Product page restructure
Stronger visual storytelling on every product page, clearer paths to the shop. Shorter distance between "I like this" and "I want this."
Checkout friction documented and briefed
The 7 abandonments were mapped to a specific cause shipping variability at the final stage with a clear recommendation delivered to address it directly.
BEFORE & AFTER
The October 2025 redesign same brand, same work, a rebuilt journey.

RESULTS
What changed after launch.
Measured across GA4 and Squarespace Analytics, comparing the periods before and after the October 2025 redesign
33%
Bounce rate reduction.
Homepage engagement rate improved sharply in the 28 days post-redesign.
70%
Shop retention.
7 in 10 visitors who reached the shop explored further into product pages rather than immediately dropping off.
58%
More weekly visitors.
Average weekly visitors grew from 73 pre-engagement to 116 post-redesign. Organic growth only, no paid traffic.
97%
Instagram engagement.
The audience arriving from Instagram was almost universally engaged. The audience was never the problem.
All metrics from GA4 and Squarespace Analytics. Bounce rate figures from GA4 Pages/Landing report comparing 28-day windows before and after the October 2025 redesign. Visitor figures from weekly averages, September–October 2025 vs November 2025–January 2026. Shop retention and Instagram engagement figures from GA4 session data. These are real analytics results from a before/after site change, not a controlled experiment.
WHAT WE FIXED
AND WHAT WE TOLD THEM
"The redesign fixed what it was built to fix. But the data also told us something the website alone couldn't solve."
At £240+ per piece, first-time buyers need more than a good website, they need trust, social proof, and a reason to believe. That's a content and brand strategy challenge, not a UX problem. We handed the client a clear brief: the conversion path is now clean; the next phase, artist storytelling, purchase reassurance, and the trust signals that turn a first visit into a first sale was beyond the scope of this engagement. But the foundation is there.
Most agencies would have stopped at the traffic numbers and called it a win. We gave the client the full picture.
